The 92d Maintenance Training Squadron at Fairchild Air Force Base, the primary training squadron for the Air Force's KC-135 fleet and responsible for training over 1,400 personnel, tasked me with creating a new more modern morale patch design to replace their previous "wizard sleeve" design.
The goal of this update was to modernize the design, and create a morale patch with a more fun-feel, while still reflecting the squadron's focus on training, documentation, and operational excellence.
The requirements for the patch were as follows:
Within the color and design standards and requirements for this patch, I decided to use the wizard as the main focus, holding the globe with their jet in his hands, much like a crystal ball. I used the 5 starts required to create an idea of sparkle/magic around the globe/crystal ball, and then added pine trees and clouds to represent Fairchild Air Force Base's location in Eastern Washington state.
The final patch design was approved by the Senior Master Sergeant Maintenance Training Superintendent.
